John Michael Koha, age 49 of Grand Rapids, MN returned home to the waiting arms of Jesus, Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing, MN. John was born in 1962 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he grew up and attended school. His loving parents were Michael and Florence Koha. John was blessed with a beautiful voice and began singing in public at age 5. While living in California, John was a member of numerous groups, most notably the lead singer of the nationally acclaimed band “Escape”. In 2004, he brought his family and musical talents to Minnesota where he organized the very popular band “Atlantis”. In addition to his instrumental and vocal gifts, John was a Silver Glove Boxer and advanced to the level of Black Belt in the martial arts. He loved to spend time in the outdoors especially fishing at “The Cabin”, but above all, John loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a Brother-in-law, Dale Mahoney.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
He is survived by: His Wife, Kelly Mahoney. A Son, Adam John Koha-Mahoney of Grand Rapids, MN; a Dearest Friend, Glenn (Elaine) Pearson of Grand Rapids, MN; his Mother-in-law, Agalice Mahoney in New York; his Father-in-law, James Mahoney in Pennsylvania; Brothers-in-law, Dan (Anita) Mahoney of Seattle, Washington and Doug (Holly) Mahoney in Virginia; a Sister-in-law, Korie (Chris) Mahoney in South Carolina; And His Special Four Legged Companion, Puck.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 P.M. Friday, July 6th at the Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids and will continue from 9:00 A.M. until the Funeral Service at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 7th at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cohasset. Rev. Christopher Gorshe will officiate.
