Died: November 01, 2012

Nick Charles Lindgren, 41, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away on Thursday November 1, 2012 at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth MN. Nick passed suddenly from cardiac arrest.

He was born in 1971 in Grand Rapids, MN to Neal and Marcie (Meade) Lindgren. Nick married Karen (Egan) Lindgren on January 2, 1999 in Alexandria, MN and they have two children Kail, 13, and Makena, 11. Nick graduated from Bigfork High School in 1989 and from there joined the United States Navy for 4 years. During his time in the Navy, he served in Desert Storm as a plane captain for the VF111 Sundowners. He was awarded 2 service medals. After the Navy, he attended Itasca Community College and Bemidji State University where he earned a B.A. Degree in Criminal Justice. Nick was employed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation as a Transportation Specialist. Nick enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping with family and friends. Everyone will remember Nick’s ability to light up a room with his laughter. Above all, he was a wonderful son, husband, father brother, and friend to all.

He is preceded in death by his father, Neal Lindgren and his mother-in-law, Gladys Egan.

Nick is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Kail and Makena of Grand Rapids, MN; mother, Marcie Lindgren of Effie, MN; siblings, Rick (Shawn) Lindgren of Chaska, MN, Linda (Tim) Olsen of Roberts, WI, and Andy (Janice) Lindgren of Grand Rapids, MN; nieces and nephews, Kelley, Jake, Anna, Katie, Michael, Neal, Bailey, Brianna, Tyler, and Lexi; sister-in-law, Deanna (Charlie) Alvord; brother-in-law, Tom (Kim) Egan; family friend, Jerry Hagen; and Chewy the dog.

Three words that sum up Nick’s life: Laughter, Love and Honesty.

Visitation will be Monday, November 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Grand Rapids, MN and will continue at the church on Tuesday, November 6th at 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with full military honors. Rev. Fr. Jerry Weiss will officiate.
