DONALD ARTHUR LAPLANT , age 61, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018 after a 23-month journey with brain cancer.  He was in the home that he built overlooking a pond in the woods surrounded by his parents, children, and beloved wife of 31 years.

Many will recall him as a master craftsman, a skilled woodsman, gifted musician, fine luthier, and friend of every animal in the Northwood. We will always remember his legacy as man that cherished his marriage as a life-time covenant and his family above all else. Donny was never one to pass up a good deal, and he always enjoyed a good buffet.

Donny was a licensed contractor most of his life and finished his career working as the Facilities Coordinator at Northern Lights Community School in Warba, Minnesota. Throughout his career, he passionately cared not only for what he was building, but also the people inside. He volunteered at the youth group at Grand Rapids Alliance Church as a mentor for over 6 years where he was known for his generosity, light-heartedness, and his mustache.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Gayle LaPlant Edwards, and infant daughter, Allison Ruth LaPlant.

Donny is survived his parents, Lloyd and Bev LaPlant; wife, Mary; children, Emily (Jacob) Nuckolls of Minneapolis, MN and Jedidiah LaPlant of Grand Rapids, MN; brothers, Chuck (Rita) LaPlant of Grand Rapids, MN, John (Annette) LaPlant of Minnetonka, MN, and Bill LaPlant of Grand Rapids, MN; brother-in-law, Gary (Wendy) Edwards of Bovey, MN; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Donny was an all-around great guy and we are forever blessed to have known him.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Grand Rapids Alliance Church, Grand Rapids, MN and continuing at church on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. until the 11:00 A.M. Funeral Service at Grand Rapids Alliance Church, Grand Rapids, MN. Rev. Erik Kling will officiate. Burial will be at Harris Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN.

Memorials are preferred.
