Arthur John Stokes, age 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 6, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Art was born June 13, 1940, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota to John and June Stokes. He grew up in Superior, Wisconsin and graduated from Superior Central High School. Art attended North Dakota State University in Fargo/Moorhead, graduating in 1962 with a pharmacy degree. His first job was at Osco Durg in St. Cloud, Minnesota. It was in St. Cloud where he met his wife, Lorraine. They were married on March 2, 1963, and moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota, where he was in retail pharmacy. Art retired after working at the Grand Itasca Hospital Pharmacy for 18 years.

Art was a master woodworker, building beautiful furniture for family and friends. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a member of the Sugar Hills Ski Patrol. He loved to fish and enjoyed the many trips to Canada with friends. He loved spending his retirement years at his cabin on Deer Lake.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, and son John Stokes. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lorraine; daughter Gail (Mark) Boller of St. Francis, MN; sister Carol (Larry) Ebel of Chippewa Falls, WI; daughter-in-law Christina Stokes; granddaughters Erin, Erika, and Brittney; great-granddaughters Emma, and Savannah; great-grandson Bear; many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Daniel Nikcevich and staff for the wonderful care, as well as the Itasca Hospice for the compassionate care provided to Art and his family.

Memorials in Art's memory may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church, Essentia Health Itasca Hospice, or Second Harvest Northland Food Shelf.

In accordance with Art's wishes, a private family gathering, and funeral will be held at a later time.
