Bernadette Leona Sobolik was born on October 30, 1937, in Perley, MN. She was the fifth born of 11 children to George and Leona (Brommenschenkel) Arends. She died peacefully with family at her side on January 3, 2025, at Oak Hill Assisted Living in Grand Rapids, MN.
Bernadette was married to Miles Patrick Sobolik on February 20, 1957, in Ada, MN. They were married for 65 years. Together they had nine children. Since Miles was in the Air Force, they lived in Rantoul, IL, San Diego, CA, and Ada, MN before moving to Grand Rapids, MN. In 1966, they moved to a rural farm in West Cohasset. Bernadette worked in a greenhouse and bakery before becoming head cook of Deer River High school for 17 years.
Bernadette was a lifelong member of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, crocheting, baking and cooking, and traveling to visit her siblings and family.
Bernadette is survived by her children, Brenda (Jim) Goodell, Rita (Greg) Craiglow, Jim (Julie) Sobolik, Theresa (Doug) Paskey, Lee (Jaime) Sobolik, Joe (Betsy) Sobolik, Francis (Terra) Sobolik; sister, Jan Hallberg; brothers, Donald Arends, Gerald (Irene) Arends, Harold (Diane) Arends, Jack (Sherry) Arends; brothers-in-law, Charles Klinck, Earl Schlick; 32 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Miles; infant son, Dennis; son, John; her parents, George and Leona Arends; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Muriel Arends; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Agnes and Pete Gagner, Rose Klinck, Cecelia Schlick, Carol Arends; and sister-in-law, Julie Arends.
A rosary service will be Monday, January 13, 2025, at 9:30 am at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, Cohasset, MN, followed by the visitation at 10:00 am and the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Fr. Blake Rozier will officiate. Burial will be at Wildwood Cemetery, Cohasset, MN.
Family would like to thank Dr. Stacy Holl, Kyle, the nurses and staff at Oak Hill Assisted Living as well as the Essentia Hospice team for the wonderful care given to Bernadette.
