Bernardine
Mann
d. Mar 8, 2025
Grand Rapids
Bernardine "Bernie" Gibeau Mann, 88, of Grand Rapids, passed away on March 8, 2025, with family nearby.
She was born on March 19, 1936, in Oklee, MN to Doria Carriere Gibeau and Mose H. Gibeau. In 1950 the Gibeau family moved to Grand Rapids, where Bernie graduated high school prior to graduating from the Miller Dwan Memorial Hospital School of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Bernie married her high school sweetheart and dance partner for life, Dwayne H. Mann, on May 26, 1956. Together they raised five children, Gayle Howell of Northport, AL; Marlene Crowe (deceased April 12, 1988); Linda Wright of Laconia, NH; Keith Mann of Cohasset, MN; and Rachelle Ashey of Canterbury, NH. She is survived by six grandchildren, Travis Crowe, Christopher Wright, Heidi Crowe Anderson, Joshua Wright, Julia Ashey Bartolloti, and Emily Ashey Gravenhorst and eight great grandchildren with the ninth expected in May; and several bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is preceded by her parents and all four of her siblings, Ethel "Marie" Logan, infant brother Vincent Lloyd Gibeau, Philip Gibeau, and Elaine Dufault.
Bernie worked for the Grand Rapids Hospital followed by 30 plus years at the Grand Itasca Clinic. As much as Bernie loved nursing, her true passion was dancing. Bernie and Dwayne took dance lessons of various styles, including Ballroom, Square Dance, Round Dance, and Clogging. They enjoyed performing extensively with their clogging groups, both in Minnesota for nearly 40 years, as well as in Texas.
Following retirement, Bernie and Dwayne spent 17 years dividing their time between their farm in Cohasset and their winter home in Harlingen, Texas. They frequently traveled to make memories with their children, grandchildren, and extended family, also visiting Brazil, Germany, Italy, and surrounding countries in Europe.
Bernie and Dwayne raised Registered Polled Herefords and Registered Red Angus cattle. In addition to farm hand, Bernie was an avid gardener, meticulously maintaining several large vegetable gardens. After retiring from farming and moving off the farm, Bernie continued to maintain a garden at her son's house and was always in search of rhubarb to make her signature jam.
The family would like to recognize and thank the care staff at The Pillars and the team at St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
A Mass of Christian Burial honoring both Dwayne and Bernie will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, Cohasset, MN with a visitation one hour prior at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery, Cohasset, MN.
