Obituary

Betty Louise Jones (Carstensen), age 91, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2025, with her daughter by her side, at Grand Village Nursing Home.

She was born in 1934, to Len and Kay (Melick) Carstensen in St James, MN.  She married Kevin Jones in 1952.

Betty and Kevin were stationed in England during Kevin's time in the service, after Kevin was discharged, the pair lived in several places until they found "home" in Grand Rapids in 1970.  Betty worked in various offices until she fulfilled a lifetime dream and became a nurse.  She attended Itasca State where she obtained her LPN. Betty worked at the old Itasca Memorial C&NC, and Leisure Hills Nursing Home, she loved working with the older population.

Betty loved to sing and enjoyed sharing it with others. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines and sang in the Presbyterian Church choir. Betty was a volunteer for Essentia Hospice, where sent went and sang to the patients.  Betty loved to travel. She spent a lot of time helping Kevin with the many Masonic organizations and was very proud to do so. Betty was 50- year member of the Eastern star, where she served as a Grand Officer.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Kay Olson; and granddaughter, Joan (Andy) Olson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kevin; parents; and siblings, Donna Willms and Bill Carstensen.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, at Salem Lutheran Brethren Church in Grand Rapids, beginning at 11:00 AM and lasting until the 12:00 PM funeral service with burial at Itasca Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Shriners Hospital.
