It is with deep sorrow we announce that Carol Joanne Kelk, a cherished wife, a devoted mother, and a respected member of the community passed away due to complications from a stroke and diabetes on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Sugar Brook Villa, in Cohasset, MN with her loving family by her side.

Carol was born on September 2, 1941, the daughter of Donald and Mabel (Mostoller) Bouchie in Feeley Township near Warba, MN. Throughout her life, Carol exuded warmth, grace, and unwavering dedication, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Carol moved to Eagle Bend at a young age and then returned to Grand Rapids at the age of 9. Having earned her High School Diploma in 1959, Carol pursued a career as a Food Service Manager, imparting her culinary expertise and overseeing the work study students. Her leadership, kindness, and Christian values touched their lives forever at Itasca Community College.  Her passion for food and service shone brightly in all her endeavors, earning her the admiration and respect of colleagues and customers alike.

On July 11, 1959, Carol was united in marriage with Francis Clayton. Francis passed away on March 23, 1990. Later Carol married Douglas Kelk on May 30, 1998, and he later passed away on July 31, 2013.

Carol completed the master gardener course, enjoyed bird watching, and loved to knit.

Carol is survived by her children: Michael (Linnea) Clayton,  Grand Rapids, MN, Joanne (Tim) Sandeen, Blackberry, MN, David (Gloria) Clayton, Evanston, WY, Janice (Steve) Moe, Grand Rapids, MN, and Jim (Connie) Clayton, Blackberry, MN; ten grandchildren: Nathan (Michelle) Sandeen, Heather Sandeen, and Dan (Alissa) Sandeen;  Josh (Wendy) Moe and Jacob Moe;  Kristen (Josh) Garner, Ben (Tammy) Clayton, Becky Clayton, April Clayton; Chance Clayton; sister: Delores Kosciolek; and 14 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Lois, Susan, Mary Bouchie, and Phyllis Medich; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend Jason Roper.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Francis Clayton and Douglas Kelk; grandson Walker Clayton; five brothers: Kenneth, Dennis, Duane, Jerry and Howard Bouchie; and sister Nancy Mollhoff

As we mourn the loss of a remarkable individual, let us also rejoice in the enduring legacy that Carol leaves behind. May her spirit continue to guide and inspire us, reminding us of the power of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication. In her memory, let us come together to celebrate a life well-lived and to offer our final farewells to a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Memorials preferred to Center for Indian Ministries through Oak Hills or Hill City Baptist Church.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Hill City Baptist Church with Rev. Lonnie Lee officiating. Visitation will begin at the church one hour prior. Interment will be at the Harris Cemetery next to Francis.

Rest in peace, dear Carol Joanne Clayton Kelk. Your light will forever shine bright in our hearts.
