Carol Ann (Mayo) Thompson, 85, of Deer River, MN passed away Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Homestead Nursing Home in Deer River, MN.

Carol was a lifelong resident of Deer River, MN. She was born on September 19, 1940, in Deer River to Thomas and Bertha (Nolette) Mayo. On July 10, 1964, she was united in marriage to Howard LeRoy Thompson, Jr. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Deer River. Carol and Howard raised their three children and resided their entire married life in Deer River. For many years Carol worked in the kitchen at the Deer River Health Care Center.

Carol had many interests including baking, cooking, crafting, scrap booking, and camping on the campground they established at their home. At the center of her life was the love she had for her husband Howard and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Howard on February 6, 2026; their child Baby Boy Thompson, and her grandson Sean Horner; siblings William, Vernon, James, Thomas, Richard, Cathy, Evie, and Viola "Pee Wee".

Carol is survived by her daughter Jacqueline (John) Payne of Deer River, MN; sons Thomas Horner and Russell (JoAnn) Horner of Deer River, MN; 8 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother Donald (Margaret) Mayo of Grand Rapids, MN; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Deer River, MN with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM at the church.  Lunch will be served after in the church basement. Rev. James Anthony will officiate.  Burial will be at Olivet Cemetery in Morse Township, MN at a later date.
