Grand Rapids
Charles "Mike" Bischoff, age 88, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023, at his home in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
Charles Francis Bischoff was born January 24, 1935, in Bigfork, Minnesota, the son of Amber Irene (Treat) and Charles Alfred Bischoff. He soon became known as "Mike" – the nickname his father had given him. Mike attended Kindergarten through 12th grade in the Grand Rapids school district. He graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Mike then earned his master's degree in Elementary Education from Bemidji State University. Mike attended school with Joanne Secker and began dating her in high school. On December 26, 1954, they were united in marriage. Together, they raised four sons.
Mike served as Principal at Central School and Riverview School here in Grand Rapids for 24 years. Mike started T & M Marine with his son, Tom over 40 years ago. Then, he began a Pontoon Boat and Trailer, Houseboat and Ice Fishing House Manufacturing Factory in Hill City, Minnesota. He eventually allowed his sons, Tom and Don to take over the ownership and operators of the factory and T & M Marine. However, not truly retiring, he owned and operated Mike's Outlet Store in Hill City for 8 years and then enjoyed going to flea markets to sell his outlet merchandise during the last five summers of his life.
Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing, coaching high school basketball and Itasca Community College basketball teams, and pontoon rides on the lake.
Mike will be deeply missed by his wife of 69 years, Joanne B. Bischoff; four sons, Robert A. Bischoff, James S. (Claribel) Bischoff, Charles T. (Lava) Bischoff, and Donald W. (Laura) Bischoff; 16 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; four sisters, Barbara Bullock, Amber Goldstein, Nancy Stefanescu, and Patricia (Jim) Plass; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George Bischoff, Stephen Bischoff, and Jay Bischoff.
