Charles W. Oftedahl, age 96 formerly of Remer, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Grand Rapids, MN. Born the youngest of six children on July 17, 1927 to Fred and Mabel (Tyler) Oftedahl of Princeton, MN. Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II, where he served in the South Pacific and the Aleutian Islands. He returned from the service to graduate from Princeton High School in 1947.
He married Lois May Seifert on April 14, 1949. Charles worked most of his career for the defense industry and with the city of Minneapolis. He lived most of his life in central Minnesota, but ended his working years in New Hampshire, returning to Minnesota in retirement. He enjoyed years of fishing, gatherings with friends & family, and listening to music of the 1940's (mostly Big Band era). He will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and good sense of humor.
He is preceded in passing by Lois, his wife of 62 years; infant son Steven, his parents, siblings, and step-granddaughter Shelley. He is survived by his children Randy (Wendy) Oftedahl of P.E.I. Canada, Su (Bob) Ugstad of Deer River MN, and Ken (Joan) Oftedahl of Pine River MN, nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at William's Dingmann Funeral Home in Princeton on April 20 at 11:00 am (visitation at 10:00); with a luncheon reception at noon at the VFW in Princeton.
An interment and military honors is scheduled at Fairview Cemetery in Remer, MN on April 21 at 11:30 am. A small reception to follow at Bethany Lutheran Church in Remer. Memorials preferred to Wounded Warriors Project or a charity of donor's choice.
