Charles J.
Schaubroeck
d. May 3, 2024
Charles Joseph Schaubroeck, age 88, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024 at home. The youngest of 9 children, he was born January 4th, 1936 to Gaston and Marie Schaubroeck in Roseville, MI. He was an accomplished athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball in high school. He enlisted in the US Army after high school and served 2 years in Germany as an MP. After the Army, he attended Michigan State, where he played catcher on the baseball team. After two years, he transferred to Moorhead State in Minnesota, where he played on the golf team and earned his degree in Accounting. It was at Moorhead State where he met his beloved wife, Judy, whom he married in 1962.
The couple moved to Champaign, IL to start his career as an accountant with Kraft Foods and later settled in Clarendon Hills, IL. His love and appreciation for the Northwoods started in 1969 when he and Judy purchased their first parcel of land near Marcel, MN. Charles and Judy had 5 beautiful children before she tragically passed away at the early age of 35. Afterwards, he moved his children to Burlington, Wisconsin where the family lived on a hobby farm, raising cattle, chickens and tended an immense garden. After ten years, in 1986, he moved to Grand Rapids, MN, with his two youngest sons where he spent his last 37 years reveling in the solace of nature; fishing, trapping and hunting on his beautiful acreage in the Northwoods. Charles, known by those close to him as "Fish Hawk", would greet everyone who came to his land for a visit with a firm handshake and warm smile. Charles leaves this world with a tremendous legacy of resilience, devotion to his Catholic faith, reverence for the land and nature, and an unwavering commitment to his children.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Kate Schaubroeck of Grand Rapids; sons: Michael (Sandy) Schaubroeck of Kaukauna, WI; James (Michelle) Schaubroeck of Eagan, MN; and Peter (fiancé Michelle) Schaubroeck of Waunakee, WI; 12 grandchildren: Monica, Michael, Samantha and Charles Barrette; Caleb, Michaela, Justin, Molly, Ella, Ryan, Tyler and Jack Schaubroeck; 2 great-grandchildren and 2 more on the way; brothers: Maurice (Ellen) and Paul Schaubroeck; and many nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Judy and his beloved youngest son Benjamin Schaubroeck (aged 42).
Dad, we love you. Watch your top knot!
