Obituary

Corrine "Corky" Podominick, age 86 of Grand Rapids, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Essentia Health-St. Mary's in Duluth.

Born in Grand Rapids on September 27, 1937, Corrine Beverly Grant was a daughter of Forres and Helen (Hodgson) Grant.  She was raised in Calumet, graduating from Greenway High School in 1955.  She was a proud, life-long member of the Calumet Community Presbyterian Church, where she sang and directed the choir, accompanied services on the piano, taught Sunday School, was an elder, and wrote the church newsletter for many years.  Corky also played the clarinet in school and was involved in the community band while living in Calumet.

Corky married James "Jim" Podominick on October 23, 1965.  Jim passed away on April 12, 2015.  Together they had three children, Mark, Robert, and Jill.  They made their home on Bass Lake, where she took great pleasure watching the wildlife, especially in more recent years.  To her, there was no better place to live than Minnesota.  Corky loved when their home was the gathering place for her children's friends, many of whom also formed lifelong connections with her.  Perhaps contributing to this was her love of cooking and baking, always ensuring that people were well-fed.  She made their home a very welcoming place to be.

Over the years, Corky was employed at the Calumet State Bank and Cohasset Elementary School.  She was an avid sports fan, her favorite team being the Minnesota Vikings.  Corky had a special place in her heart for animals, especially dogs.  She adored her grandchildren, supporting their interests and volunteering at their schools over the years.

Corky was witty and displayed her sense of humor right up to the very end.  She enjoyed keeping people on their toes and making them laugh.  She will be missed by many.

Corky was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; parents, Forres and Helen Grant; father- and mother-in-law, Anton and Rose Podominick; brother, David Grant; brothers-in-law, Charles Anderson, Anton (Helen) Podominick, Jack Podominick; and sister-in-law, Ceceilia (James) Vincent.

She is survived by her children, Mark of Nashwauk, Robert (Kristin) of Cottage Grove, and Jill (Don) Murray of Knife River; grandchildren, Meagan (Chris) Vortherms of Sauk Rapids, Anthony of Duluth, Brianna (Brody) Nelson of Calumet, Elise Podominick and Sofia Podominick, both of Cottage Grove; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Anderson of Grand Rapids; sister-in-law, Debra Grant of St. Cloud; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, beginning at 10:00 am at Lawron Presbyterian Church in rural Bovey, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at the church.  Rev. Dorothy Duquette will officiate.
