Darla Joy Herbst, age 83, of Cohasset, MN passed away peacefully Friday, June 20, 2025, at her home surrounded by her cherished books.

Darla was born in 1941 to Clifford and Minnie Dickmeyer in Braham, MN. The family moved to Grand Rapids when she was two years old. She attended local schools and graduated in 1959 from Grand Rapids Senior High School. After high school she attended Abbott Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1962.

Darla worked as a Registered Nurse for 30 years, including one year in the delivery room at Abbott Hospital, three years at the Grand Rapids Clinic, 10 years in the emergency room at Itasca Memorial Hospital and 16 years at Leisure Hills Nursing Home. She and her husband, Bob, also owned and operated the Bass Lake Greenhouse for 30 years.

Darla loved reading, music (especially Elvis), cruises, board games, crossword puzzles, and Minnesota Vikings football but mostly she cherished the time she was able to spend with her children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob, who died in March 2010; stepson Bob Jr.; and step grandchild, Michael.

Darla is survived by her son, Steven (Cindy) Herbst; daughter, Michele (Joe Burt), stepsons, Tim (Diane), Tom; grandchildren, Kayley, Korey, Kody, Scotty, Samantha; two great grandchildren, Grayson and Huxley; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; and sister, Carole (Denton) Frazier.

Visitation will be at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 2:30pm followed by the 3:00pm funeral service. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 11:00am.
