David Lloyd Carroll, aged 74, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at Aspirus Lake View Hospital in Two Harbors. Born on November 1, 1950, in Cleveland, Ohio, David was the son of Lloyd and Marjorie Carroll.
David pursued his education at the esteemed Carson-Long Institute in New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania. His commitment to service was evident early on as he went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1973 during the Vietnam War.
After his military service, David began working at the Lind-Greenway mine until its closure. He then embarked on a career at Blandin Paper Mill, dedicating over 30 years of service and earning his boilers license.
David's first marriage gave him two daughters, Holly and Jessica. Later, he found happiness with Kathy (Armstrong) Kaczor, gaining two more beloved children, Andrea and Adam.
A man of diverse interests, David was passionate about snowmobiling and off-roading adventures with his dear friend, Gary. Known for his infectious belly laugh and warm hugs, David was a true enthusiast of rock music, with favorites including Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and 38 Special. He loved his family and grandchildren. Among his closest companions was Misty, his cherished feline friend.
David was a proud member of the V.F.W. Post 1720 in Grand Rapids and the Grand Rapids American Legion.
David Carroll is preceded in death by his mother Marjorie Houseman-Heist, father Lloyd Wadsworth Carroll, his sister Lynelle; and stepdad Arthur Heist.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Kathy; daughters Holly (Nate) Lane, Jessica (Mike) Carroll, and Andrea (Charlie) Cowdell; son Adam Armstrong; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister Michelle (James) Krohn; brother Peter (Jeana) Heist; and numerous nieces and nephews.
David's legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will be cherished by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and community.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 17, 2025, at Rowe Funeral Home, 510 NW First Ave., Grand Rapids, MN 55744 with a visitation one hour prior at the funeral home. Pastor Mary Shidler will officiate.
