David John
Martin
d. Sep 1, 2024
David Martin, 59, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at his home in Grand Rapids, MN.
David John was born September 29, 1964, in Grand Rapids, the son of Arthur and Ruby Martin. He grew up in Grand Rapids and graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1982. He earned a degree in computer programming from Brown Institute, Minneapolis, in 1983.
A man of great integrity and dedication, David proudly served in the United States Air Force during Operation Desert Storm from 1984 to 1993. Following his military tenure, he returned to Grand Rapids, immersing himself in various pursuits that were a testament to his passionate spirit. David's voice graced the airwaves at KAXE, showcasing his talents in broadcasting, whilst his involvement at the Reif Performing Arts Center highlighted his appreciation for artistic expression.
Music was his chief artistic expression-drums, guitar, keyboard-the music rolled up and out and fed his soul. He played, he practiced, he jammed with others, and simply shared the gift in so many ways, including his role in the Praise Band at Community Presbyterian Church.
Additionally, his commitment to faith and community had grown to include his role as a deacon at Community Presbyterian Church earlier this year.
He is survived by his sister Janis (Paul) McConnaughay; brother James (Denise) Martin; nieces: Erika (Todd) Tosel, Mary Haussner, and Emily McConnaughay; nephews: Adam (Julie) Martin and Samuel McConnaughay; 4 great-nephews: Jack, Noah, Emmett, and Cameron; and one great-niece, Faith.
David is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Community Presbyterian Church in Grand Rapids, MN with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Lay Pastor Mary Shideler officiating.
Please keep David's family in your thoughts and prayers.
