Deanna E. Hakala, age 84, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Floodwood MN, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023 while in hospice care at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Grand Rapids, MN.

Deanna was born November 25, 1938 in Hibbing, MN to Rudy and Lillian Hakola.  She graduated from Hibbing High School in 1957.  After graduation, she moved to Duluth and worked as a model at Master Furriers.  On October 10, 1961, she married the love of her life, Cal.  Deanna's career was primarily in food service.  She worked for the Floodwood School District as a cook for 24 years, before retiring in 2005.  In 2019, she moved to Grand Rapids to be closer to family. Deanna's greatest joy came from spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.  She enjoyed watching online videos of her granddaughter's goat shows & dance performances.  She loved receiving texts & pictures of the grandkids on her iPad.  She will be deeply missed by her family and all who loved her.

Deanna was preceded in death by her husband Calvin in 2019; son-in-law Carl Koekenhoff; brothers Dale "Norman", Jerry; twin brother Dean and sister Elaine.

She is survived by her son Jeff Hakala (Alina Vincent) of Manitowoc, WI; twin daughters Julie (Josh) Joyce of Graettinger, IA and Jill (John) Mattson of Cohasset, MN; six grandchildren Sasha (Brandon), Cody, Tyler, Kyle, Jadyn and Jace; great grandson Ryker; brother Gordon (Ione) Hakola; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, MN with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 Noon.  Reverend Marva Jean Hutches will officiate.  Inurnment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing, MN.
