Delores Jane Christensen, age 86, of Grand Rapids, MN died peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Majestic Pines Senior Living, Grand Rapids, MN.
Delores was born in the tiny town of Sedan, MN, to Orlyn and Agnes Olson in 1937. After graduating Glenwood High School, she attended and graduated from the Abbott School of Nursing as a registered nurse. Thus began her professional and personal life as a caregiver.
She met the love of her life Arnold "Chris" Christensen in Minneapolis, MN and they were married in 1962. The couple lived in Burnsville for the next six years and had a son, Todd, and later daughter, Julie, who had special needs. Chris's job took them to Milwaukee, WI in 1968 where Delores began working as a nursing school instructor. In 1978, there was an opportunity to move to Grand Rapids where Delores has numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She continued teaching at Itasca Community College until she retired.
There were countless trips across the United States and Canada in some form of an RV. Including four summers in Alaska. Delores was always cooking and canning whatever was grown or caught. She enjoyed playing card games with her many friends and family. Delores was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Circle, and the Red Hat Ladies.
She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Julie; and sister, Janice Iverson.
Delores is survived by her husband of 61 years, Arnold; son, Todd (Melissa); brother, Donald (Kim) Olson; grandchildren, Andrew (Haley) Christensen and Kaylen (Ben) Margotta; great grandchildren, Ari Christensen, Henry and Carter Margotta.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, MN beginning at 11:00 AM and lasting until the 12:00 PM funeral service. Burial will be at Harris Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Minnesota Special Olympics, http://support.specialolympics.org.
