Obituary

Donald Frederick Schultenover, age 87, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Grand Itasca Hospital and Clinic in Grand Rapids, MN.

Don was born on October 4, 1934 in Grand Forks, ND to Fred and Rose Schultenover. In 1960, Don and Yvette were married in Fargo, North Dakota.  He served in the North Dakota Air National Guard as a Staff Sargeant while he attended school. He graduated from North Dakota State University (NDSU) in Fargo, ND. He held a master's degree from Moorhead State University. Don taught school in Fergus Falls, MN, Moorhead State University Lab School and Grand Rapids, MN. He was elected to the board of directors of the Minnesota Education Association (MEA) and National Education Association (NEA). He was appointed to the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela who died at the age of 17 ("which was the worst day of my life"), his sisters, Alice (George) Schuh of Fargo, ND, Marguerite (Jack) Lynch of Grand Forks, ND, and Marian (Jim) Mitchell of Napa, CA.

Don will be deeply missed by his spouse, Yvette (Whitcomb); son, Brian of Centralia, WA; daughter, Paula (David) Behr of Stacy, MN; grandsons, Jack (Jamie Hasama) Schultenover of Redondo Beach, CA, and 1st Lt. Matthew (Madison) Schultenover of Fort Moore, GA; granddaughters, Domonique "Nikki" Behr of Minneapolis, MN; and Tessa Behr of Minneapolis, MN; two great grandsons expected in 2025; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
