Dorine
Grubb
d. Jul 15, 2023
Fargo
Dorine M. Grubb, age 98, formerly of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Eventide Senior Living in Fargo, ND.
Dorine was born in Cloquet, MN in 1924 to George and Bertha Mattinen. She graduated from Esko High School in 1942. After high school, she worked at Wood Conversion during World War II, then left Minneapolis after the war and moved to California. She met Winston Grubb on December 31, 1945, and they were united in marriage on February 16, 1946, in Tijuana, Mexico! Soon after their marriage they moved around the country with each of their five children being born in different cities. The couple settled in Grand Rapids in 1962 where Winston opened the Grubb Dental Lab, and Dorine kept the books for him, and then during the 1990's she was employed by Dorholt Tile and home center. In her most recent years, she moved to assisted living and then into skilled nursing at Eventide Senior Living, in Fargo, ND to be near her youngest daughter and son.
Dorine was a talented homemaker, an amazing seamstress and loved to bake. She was noted to be "a real tough cookie" that demolished her kitchen in preparation for the remodel that she helped with. Dorine was dancing at the Eagles until she was 82, and she would have danced longer if her body had let her. Dorine was noted to have told everyone that she was "still grubby" or "still here" when they asked her how she was doing. One of her greatest joys was being a senior companion well into her 80's.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Winston; daughter, Karen; son Stewart; and brothers, Rodney and Chester. Dorine is survived by her children, Preston (Diana), Lowell "Chip" (Barb), Michelle (Duke) Albrecht; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and sisters, Audrey Krutzig and Anita Aho.
A visitation will be held at Salem Lutheran Brethren Church in Grand Rapids, Minnesota on Monday, July 24, 2023, beginning at 12:00 PM and lasting until the 1:00 PM funeral service. The burial will be at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Red River Valley, ND, or Eventide Senior Living Center.
