Dorothy Lea Thomas, 77, of St Paul, MN passed away unexpectedly January 10, 2024, lovingly surrounded by family in Naples, FL.
Dorothy was born November 5, 1946, in Fargo, ND to Erwin and Mamye Johnson. She went to Perham High School and graduated from Moorhead State University with a degree in Education. She met Bruce Thomas, the love of her life, through their mutual love of teaching. They had four children: John, Edward, David, and Allison.
Dorothy had an infectious laugh and a fantastic smile. She was exceptionally kind, generous and loving. Her career as a Special Education teacher highlighted her compassion and empathy for others which carried through to all facets of her life. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends, whether it be summers at the cabin, or holidays with her children and grandchildren. Her granddaughters were a special joy. She touched the lives of so many and will be deeply missed.
Dorothy is survived by husband of 53 years, Bruce Thomas; children, John (Mora) Thomas, Edward Thomas, and Allison Thomas; grandchildren, Sophie, Isabella, and Claire; sisters, Kathy (Darryl) Kowitz, Karen (Nathan) Engevik; sister-in-law, Bonnie Johnson; brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Nancy Thomas; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a beloved aunt.
She is preceded in death by her son, David in 2018; parents; and her brother, Jim Johnson.
Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Friday, January 19th at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Saturday, January 20th at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Coleraine, MN, with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine.
