Obituary

Douglas Alan McCartney, age 63, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024, surrounded by family at Majestic Pines Senior Living.

Douglas was born in 1961, one of 5 children, to Owen and Helen McCartney in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Doug grew up and attended local area schools, graduating from Grand Rapids High in 1979.  While "attending" Spanish class, he met Norma Kelley, and in 1980, the high school sweethearts married. The pair was never far apart from each other from then on.

Shortly after high school, Doug went to work for the Blandin Paper Mill and spent 38 years there, retiring in 2015. Doug was a stubborn individual, that was a teddy bear of a man. He loved his family and adored his grandchildren. When Doug was not spending time with his family, he enjoyed woodworking, music, playing in the band FB Night in his younger years, and dancing.  Doug had a passion for anything outdoors, hunting, fishing, and always looked forward to his "Man's Week" with his work buddies in the fall of every year.  He will be greatly missed by all.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents, and beloved wife, Norma. He is survived by his children, Nick (Annaliesa) McCartney, Jacob (Renie) McCartney, Katie (Marcus) Millikan; sisters, Wendy Dollansky, and Nancy (Mark) Carlson; brothers, Mike (Laura) McCartney, and Brian (Deb) Mccartney; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Doug's life will be held at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
