Emmy L.
Humrickhouse
d. Aug 24, 2026
Grand Rapids
Emmy L. Humrickhouse, age 96, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Monday, August 24, 2026, at River Grand Assisted Living in Grand Rapids.
Emmy was born in 1930 to Frederick and Marie Koprek in Little Falls, MN. She graduated from Little Falls High School in 1948. Following high school, she attended and graduated from St. Cloud State Teachers College in St. Cloud, MN earning a certificate in elementary education. On March 26, 1951, Emmy was united in marriage to Alan “Bruce” Humrickhouse. Emmy taught school in Aitkin, MN and then Bloomington, MN. Emmy and Bruce raised their family and made their home in the Twin Cities until moving to Northome in 1959. During their 75 years of marriage Emmy and Bruce lived in various communities around the state, relocating for Bruce’s career assignments with the Department of Natural Resources, prior to settling in the Grand Rapids area in 1978. Emmy and Bruce rented a cabin every summer near Hovland, MN on the shore of Lake Superior, and the memories made there are treasured by generations of her family.
Emmy was an active member of the Episcopal Church in Brainerd and later Grand Rapids, where she sang in the choir and was active in the altar guild. She loved flower gardening and spending time with her beloved Labradors, as well as “adopting” the neighborhood dogs as her own - she always had a treat to spare for them, and they all knew it. Family was of utmost importance to Emmy. She loved listening to the stories and activities going on in the lives of her kids, grandchildren, and “GGs” (great grandchildren).
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Marie Koprek; her husband Bruce; her sister, Margaret Walther; and her brother, Thomas Koprek.
She is survived by her son, Scott (Debra) Humrickhouse of Altoona, WI; daughter, Heidi (Dave Hunnicutt) Humrickhouse of Taft, TX; grandchildren, Paul Humrickhouse of Powell, TN, and Kate (Richard) Larson of Eau Claire, WI; great grandchildren, Emily, Henry, and Annika Larson; and her nieces and nephews.
Per Emmy’s wishes, no service will be held. Memorials can be sent to Christ Episcopal Church in Grand Rapids.
