Frances (Fran) Harriet Aamodt Lahti, 88, formerly of Eveleth, Minnesota, passed away peacefully in Grand Rapids, MN on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, surrounded by her husband Ken and children.

Born October 25, 1936, in Fargo, North Dakota, Fran was the beloved only daughter of Julian and Frances Aamodt. Fran was baptized and confirmed in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Barnesville, Minnesota, graduated from Barnesville High School, and received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota in 1958.

While at Concordia, Fran sang in the prestigious Concordia Choir under the direction of Paul J. Christiansen. A classically trained soprano, Fran performed with the choir nationally and internationally. The Concordia Choir's annual Christmas Festival Concerts were a place of deep spiritual nurture for Fran as were the many opportunities to sing before audiences across the Midwest and abroad. During the choir's 1958 tour to Norway, Fran sang before King Olav V in Trondheim's Nidaros Cathedral.

At Concordia Fran met her husband of 67 years, Kenneth Lahti. They married on December 22, 1957 and embarked for a winter honeymoon in northern Minnesota that introduced the prairie-raised Fran to the forests of the Arrowhead, a land that became for her a place of enduring beauty and delight. Fran and Ken's life together was shaped by shared commitments to God and the church, education, music, travel, friends, children, and devotion to one another, a love rooted in mutual respect, shared service, and reciprocal affection.

As a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Fran made a home that was rich in beauty and generous in love. Fran loved curating collections of antiques, original paintings, and Finnish glassware. Every domestic task was an artform for her; washing clothes and getting up early to hang them on the clothesline outdoors gave her scope for enjoying the dawn and singing birds. The rituals and rhythms of domestic life always included breaks for coffee and conversation with friends and family.

In her middle years, Fran taught third grade at Franklin Elementary in Eveleth. She was respected and loved by students and fellow faculty members alike. After retiring, Fran travelled with Ken to many locations in Western Europe and Scandinavia and engaged the full vitality of life with others, hosting each of her grandchildren for week-long "summer camp" experiences at her beloved cabin on Lake Vermilion.

Fran's over thirty-year commitment to the choir at United in Christ Lutheran Church in Eveleth was an abiding pleasure of her life. She was a patron of the arts, supporting the Minnesota Orchestra and volunteering with the Arrowhead Concert Series. She was also involved in The Ladies of Kaleva, a Finnish-American cultural organization that offered her marvelous friendships. She took part in Finnish-Americans and Friends and was a fund-raiser for Salolampi Finnish Language Village, an immersion language program of the Concordia Language Village system. Additionally, Fran's acts of service and mercy in support of the elderly in her care and in kindness to all those in need revealed her faithful obedience to love God and neighbor.

Fran was preceded in death by her father and mother and a half-brother, James.

Fran is survived by her husband Ken, her sons Steven Lahti (Paula) and Jon Lahti; her daughters Lori Lahti Goetz (Doug), Lynn Lahti Hommeyer (Tom), and Lisa Lahti Wyland (Gerry); her grandchildren Erik Lahti (Autumn), Kai Lahti (Danielle), Anne (Goetz) Boemler (Derek), Berit Goetz (Jamie), Jon Smith-Goetz (Erica), Ingrid (Goetz) Schubkegel (Kyler), Lucia, Liv, Liisa, and Leif Wyland, Sven and Stieg Lahti; and great-grandchildren Leena, Liam, and Lira Lahti and Sophia and Lillian Boemler.

A service of Christian burial will be held in the spring. Fran loved the Lord Jesus Christ and knew Him as her Savior. Memorials in honor of Fran may be made to United in Christ Lutheran Church Choir in Eveleth, The Ladies of Kaleva, and St. Croix Hospice of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to whom, along with the staff of the Pillars of Grand Rapids, the family gives thanks for their kind and skillful care of Fran.
