Fred J. Benes, age 83, of Hill City, MN passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth, MN.

Fred John was born November 1, 1940, in Hill City, Minnesota to Frank and Marie (Halek) Benes.  He grew up in Hill City and attended Grand Rapids Schools.  On June 25, 1960, Fred was united in marriage to Ada Dagle in Hill City.

Fred and Ada raised their family and resided their entire married life in Hill City.  Fred was a tireless worker and spent his entire life logging and farming.  When not working he had many interests.  Every spring Fred took part in planting trees for Blandin Paper Company.  He enjoyed gardening, harvesting wild rice, and trapping.  He was also an accomplished guitarist and was known to enjoy a game of Keno now and then! He was a proud member of the 49'ers Union, the Grand Rapids Moose Lodge, and the Grand Rapids Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Fred is survived by his wife Ada of 64 years; children Brenda (Michael) Price, Brian (Jenifer) Benes, Bonnie (Jeff) Hidde; six grandchildren, eleven great granddaughters; siblings Bess Braeden, and Victoria "Susie" Howard; nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Marie, and eight siblings.

In accordance with Fred's wishes, no formal services will be held.
