Gerald "Jerry" Malwitz, a cherished resident of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on March 6, 2025, at Autumn Lane in Cohasset, with his devoted family by his side.
Born on December 26, 1938, in Red Lake County, MN, Jerry was the son of William and Marie Malwitz. After graduating from Plummer High School in 1956, he spent several years farming alongside his father. Jerry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963. Following his military service, he embarked on a career with a pipeline company before transitioning to the natural gas utility sector, where he excelled in both service and marketing roles in Cloquet and Grand Rapids, MN.
In 1978, Jerry was united in marriage with Jan (Larson) Hunter, and together they crafted a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. The couple particularly enjoyed their winters in Bradenton, FL, where they created countless joyful moments.
A man of the outdoors, Jerry found joy in fishing and hunting, passions that he shared with family and friends.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife Jan; children, Bruce (Cindy) Malwitz, Tanya Malwitz, Todd (Erin) Hunter, and Jodi Hunter; 9 grandchildren, Bradley Malwitz, Jennifer Malwitz, Dakota Malwitz, Chase Hunter, Seger Hunter, Danielle Hernesman, Jesse Richardson, Riley Richardson, and Bella Richardson; 5 great-grandchildren, Cash, Hudson, Cais, Vayda, and Hoover; sister, Marilyn (Jerry) Shackleford; brothers, Bill (Phyllis) Malwitz, and Bob Malwitz; sisters-in-law Susan Drotts, and Julie (Al) Cicioni; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Jean (Dale) Baril, and Myrna (Wayne) Cunningham; brothers-in-law, Bruce Drotts, and Greg Larson; and mother-in-law, Margaret Larson.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Cohasset, MN with Pastor Mark Peske officiating. Military honors to follow after the funeral service. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
