Gerald Vernon "Jerry" Trombley, age 85, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away suddenly Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at his home.
Jerry was born April 15, 1940, in Minneapolis, MN to Vernon and Marion (Prouty) Trombley. He attended Minneapolis Public Schools and graduated from Minneapolis North High School. Jerry went on to attend the University of Minnesota before serving his country in the United States Army from August of 1961 until his honorable discharge in August of 1964.
Following his military duty, he returned home to Minneapolis and began a long career with the Star Tribune Newspaper. In 1967 Jerry was united in marriage to Carmen (Brinkhaus). They raised their family and made their home in Robbinsdale, MN. At the age of 40 Jerry returned to college and finished his bachelor's degree at Metro State University. His wife Carmen passed away in 1994, and following his retirement from the Star Tribune after 36 years of service, Jerry retired to Northern Minnesota.
Jerry loved hunting, fishing, and reading. He was an avid sky diver having made thousands of jumps, and was past president of the St. Croix Valley Skydiving Club. During his time in Grand Rapids Jerry found love again. For the last several years he has treasured his loving relationship with Linda Rachunek.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Carmen; sister Margaret Ann Trombley. Jerry is survived by sons Vernon John (Belinda) Trombley and James Trombley; grandchildren Catherine (fiancé Sam Hansen) Trombley, Logan (Letícia) Trombley; brothers James (Pat) Trombley and Richard Trombley.
A visitation and time of gathering to celebrate Jerry's life will be held Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Interment with full military honors will be held Monday, August 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Crystal, MN. There will be an additional celebration of Jerry's Life to follow on Monday, August 25, 2025 from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Wicked Wort Brewing Company, 4165 W. Broadway, Robbinsdale, MN.
