George "Shen" Adams III, age 83, of Grand Rapids, MN died Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at River Grand Assisted Living.

Shen was born on November 16, 1942, to G.S. Adams, Jr and Barbara R. Adams in Yankton, SD, delivered by his grandpa, Dr. G.S. Adams, Sr. He was raised in Moville, IA and graduated from Moville High School. He went on to graduate from the University of South Dakota in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in education.

Shen and Janet Lee Gilbert were united in marriage on June 4, 1966, in Sioux Falls, SD. He taught high school at Riggs High School in Pierre, SD for four years and moved back to Moville, IA. Shen was employed by First Trust and Savings Bank where he worked for four years. Shen and Janet moved to Austin, MN where he was employed as Internal Bank Auditor at First Bank Austin and in Installment and commercial loans. Shen transferred to First Bank Little Falls as Senior VP of Commercial Loans and was employed there for several years before being designated president. From there he went to Grand Rapids State Bank in Grand Rapids, MN as Senior VP, retiring in 2008.

Shen was active on community boards in each of the communities he served, including president of the Morrison County Development Fund. He was a board member of the Itasca Community Development Corporation and on the board of directors of the Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital. Shen served as treasurer for each of the local parishes he was involved with.

Shen enjoyed playing golf and tennis during his younger years and loved fishing, including trips with his brothers, and with Mary on several nearby lakes.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Jan. He is survived by his significant other, Mary Vergin of Grand Rapids, MN; daughters, Susan (Michael) Hubbard of Scottsdale, AZ, Catherine (Timothy) Jerabek of Jordan, MN; Mary's children, Michael (Stephanie) Vergin, Susan (Scott) Racine; brothers, Richard Adams of Plano, TX, Charles (Andrea) Adams of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Abby, Lindsay, Madeline, Elizabeth; Mary's grandchildren, Mitchal (Rose), Megan, Ellen, Molly; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at River Grand for their exceptional and compassionate care.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 7, 2026, at River Grand Senior Living in Grand Rapids, MN. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on June 13, 2026, at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Edina, MN, with the Rev. John Peters officiating.
