Harvey L. Davis Sr., age 82, of Grand Rapids, MN died Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Grand Itasca Hospital after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Harvey was born on April 12, 1942, in Buchanan, North Dakota as the first of seven children to Richard R and Dorothy E Davis. Harvey joined the military at 18 and served in the United States Army as an infantryman. He was stationed in Berlin and was there during the building of the Berlin wall and served on the Berlin Brigade Rifle Team where he took 1st place All Europe in the fully automatic weapons competition. During this time, he met his future bride, Rosemarie G Skoppeck. Rosemarie immigrated to the United States, and they were married in Pingree, ND on November 25, 1964. Harvey and Rosemarie raised their two children in several towns in Minnesota and North Dakota. They moved to Grand Rapids in 1978. They were married 49 years until her passing in 2013.

Upon retirement from the military, Harvey worked briefly in hotel management and insurance investigation before joining Holiday Stationstores in 1966 starting as an Assistant Manager in St. Paul, MN. Harvey continued working for Holiday Stationstores for the rest of his career in increasingly more responsible management roles throughout northern MN. In his last role he was a District Manager responsible for overseeing multiple Holiday Stationstores between Grand Rapids, Ely, and International Falls. He retired from Holiday after forty years of service.

Harvey had a strong drive to community service and volunteerism. He was active with the Jaycee's Club and as a volunteer driver for Disabled American Veterans to and from the VA Hospital in Minneapolis. Harvey spent a great deal of time and effort as a member of the Moose Lodge in Grand Rapids MN, serving as a board member, governor, and president for several years at the local, district, and state level. His dedication and service to the Moose Lodge earned him the highest award within Moose; International of Pilgrim.

Harvey had many hobbies and enjoyed hunting, fishing, baking, sewing, antique engine and tractor restoration.

Harvey is survived by his girlfriend, Jackie Haggard; children, daughter, Karen (Jan Witte) Davis; son, Harvey (Patricia) Davis, Jr.; brothers, Morgan (Sharon) Davis and Craig Davis; sisters, Gayle (Stephen Emerson) Davies, and Carol (Artur Konarzewski) Kaminski; three grandchildren, Richard, Hunter, and Tessa. He is preceded in death by sister, Marian (Paul) Wegener; and brother, Rodney Davis.

A Service of Tribute will be held on Sunday, November 17th at the Grand Rapids Moose Lodge at 1:00pm.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, MN beginning at 10:00 am and lasting until the 11:00 memorial service. Inurnment will be at the Zion Columbarium with Military Honors being given.
