Helen "Sissy" Jean Maves, age 60, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2025 at Huntsman Cancer Care Center in Salt Lake City, UT.

Helen was born in 1965 to Murrel and Helen Peters in Norfolk, VA. When Sissy was a child, the family moved to Grand Rapids where she graduated high school. On August 28, 1993, Helen was united into marriage to William Maves in Taconite. They lived there for 7 years before moving to rural Grand Rapids. Sissy was a stay-at-home mom until her children were older and worked various jobs. After Bill's passing, Helen went back to school at the College of Saint Scholastica where she earned her bachelor's degree in computer science and began working for the diocese of Duluth as a Global Administrator until her retirement and cancer diagnosis. Sissy was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grand Rapids, and volunteered teaching religious education.

When her sons were younger, Sissy loved to camp with them and attended their sporting events, taking lots of pictures. During the winter months, she would travel with her children, especially to Arizona, Florida, and Montana. Sissy also enjoyed going on cruises. She loved her job, working on computers and IT and would spend many hours learning new techniques to help others. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, and finding great deals so she could give gifts to everyone.

Sissy is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; and brother, David. She is survived by her sons, Cody, Calvin, and Matthew Maves.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Cohasset, MN, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids.
