Henry "Hank"
Johns
d. Dec 2, 2024
Henry "Hank" Clarence Johns, age 81, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, at his home, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Born on February 26, 1943, in Bamberg, South Carolina, Hank was the cherished son of Henry Clarence and Myrtle Johns. A proud veteran, he served in the United States Coast Guard from April 4, 1961, until his honorable discharge on March 23, 1965. During his service, he received a letter of appreciation in August 1968, recognizing his character, leadership, and courage—qualities that defined him throughout his life.
Hank dedicated many years to his work at Blandin Paper Co. and devoted countless hours to volunteer endeavors, where he made lasting impacts through coaching and community engagement. Hank spent his later years building bird houses with his grandkids, teaching them how to fish, and spreading joy through his woodworking abilities. He taught us about life, including caring for homes, gardening, raising animals, woodworking, and how to make a homemade skating rink when the snow was too deep on the lake. His last days were spent making sure his wife was near and spending time with family.
Hank is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Judith Kay Johns. Together, they nurtured a blended family, enriched by beautiful grandchildren and a wide network of friends. Known affectionately as "HC" by his family in the South, Hank's warmth and generosity will be profoundly missed.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time and encourages all to continue to honor Hank's spirit by living life to the fullest, embracing each day with kindness and generosity, and never going to bed mad as he so beautifully exemplified.
