Herbert C. Stansberry, age 84, of Swatara, MN, passed away at his home on Friday, January 23, 2026, with his daughter and son-in-law by his side.

Herbert Clyde was born to Clyde and Viola (Trepanier) Stansberry above the Trepanier Store in Swatara, Minnesota on October 31, 1941 (he forever made Halloween more fun for the rest of us!). Herb grew up in Swatara and graduated from Hill City High School where he met his future wife, homecoming queen and biggest cheerleader, Doris Hyttinen of Jacobson, Minnesota. They were united in marriage April 20, 1963, and celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage.

Herb had many different jobs in his life.  He started out as a teen logging with his cousin Raymond Jewett, at times literally hauling logs on their backs.  He then worked for the Soo Line Railroad, various construction jobs, and delivered for Old Dutch while living in Minneapolis. Herb's best job, however, was the bar business. He owned and operated the Corner Club in Haypoint for nearly 30 years.  Initially he was partner with his brother-in-law Harry Hilton, then continued on his own.

Herb was an avid sports fan (mostly Twins and Timberwolves) and loved hunting and fishing. In his youth he was very athletic and continued being active into his later years, where he enjoyed playing softball and always challenging the "young guys" to foot races.

Community pride and involvement was an important part of Herb's life. For many years he helped organize, support, and coach the Swatara Little League mentoring many of the area's youth. He also helped establish the first snowmobile trails for the Haypoint Jackpine Savage's Club and was behind the scenes on so many other projects over the years.

Herb was a remarkable man. He was blessed with many friends and was loved and respected by a whole lot of people, especially his family.  Even though short on words at times, when Herb spoke it mattered. Affectionately known as "Uncle Herb", he was a trusted confidante and "like a father" to so many.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Viola; wife Doris and son Steven; niece Linda Hilton Leblanc; grandnephew Randy Hilton; brothers-in-law Jack and Harry Hilton, and James Hyttinen; also many "four legged" friends, especially Duke and Cinder.

Herb is survived by his daughter Deborah (Bob) Shaw; sisters Carolyn and Evelyn Hilton; many nieces and nephews and so many friends.

A Celebration of Life Gathering to remember Herb & Doris and their son Steve will be held Saturday, April 25th from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the Corner Club, Hay Point, MN.  Please join us to honor Herb & Doris and Steve and share your memories. Lunch will be served throughout the afternoon.

Memorials in their memory may be directed to Moose-Willow Sportsman's Club. It was Herb who named this club at its inception many years ago.
