Hugh George Perkins , age 95, of Remer, MN passed away on February 9, 2023, at his home with family around him. Hugh was born in 1927 to Lawrence and Hannah Perkins in Remer, MN where he was raised, attended school, and worked various jobs. Following his graduation, Hugh joined the U.S. Navy. He served in Communications and spent 2.5 years stationed in China. Hugh returned home and went to North Dakota where he met and married the love of his life, Laurel Paulson. They were married on June 17, 1951, in Taylor, ND. In 1952, they moved to Remer, establishing their home, raising their six children and beef cattle on the ranch.

Hugh's love and devotion to his family was evident by his joy of spending countless meals, visits, and celebrations with all of them. He was always willing to help them and others whenever he could.

Hugh was a hardworking man of integrity and generosity which showed in his career and community. He dedicated 40 years to the U.S. Postal Service, delivering mail to his Remer Star Route Patrons. In between his route and chores, Hugh gave 21 years as a School Board member, attending countless meetings.

Hugh faithfully attended the Remer Congregational Church since his infant baptism. As a committed member, he served as a Deacon, Adult Sunday School teacher, and various board positions. His lifetime contributions declared him one of the Cornerstones of the Church, as well as Honorary Lifetime Deacon.

His pastime delight was his huge vegetable garden where he spent hours weeding, and sharing the benefits of the produce. He also enjoyed picking berries, chopping wood, hunting, and traveling. He and Laurel spent 30 years traveling after retirement, which afforded him time to relax and enjoy the blue skies and sunshine.

Preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Jilene Myers and Georgene Marana (Godfrey); sister, Laurene Perkins; and brother, Larry Perkins.

Hugh is survived by his wife of 71 years, Laurel Perkins; four children: Debs (Dean) Engen and children: Stephanie, Deana, and Jaden; Lois Perkins-Huff (Jim) and children: Brittney and Kaylin; Jeff (Shirley) Perkins and children: Jordan and Kane; Paula (Curt) Hemsworth and child: Miranda; Jilene's children: Kristian, Carmen and Shannon; and Georgene's children: Darrick and Amber; and his brother, Philip Perkins. He is also survived by 23 very special great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Inky Paulson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held 3:00 PM at Remer Congregational Church with visitation beginning one hour prior. Rev. Bruce Pound, Officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Remer.
