IRENE J. SUTHERLAND-JAMSA

Irene J. Sutherland-Jamsa, age 91, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota entered eternity peacefully December 17, 2024 at her home in River Grand.

Irene Joyce Sutherland-Jamsa was born February 28, 1933 in Cohasset, Minnesota, the daughter of Adelbert and Elsie (Bertram) Rupert.  Following her school years, Irene was married to Ervin Sutherland and became the proud mother of five children.

She can be remembered as a hardworking woman – caring for the family home, assisting with the family business, Sutherland Excavating, and worked at JC Penney's for a number of years.  Her favorite place to be was at home.  Inside, she loved to bake and cook, especially with the grandchildren, always making everyone's favorite meal or desserts. She enjoyed the outdoors creating beautiful flowerbeds and growing a vegetable garden.  She always made sure the birdfeeders were full so everyone could enjoy watching the birds.

After Ervin's death, Irene was united in marriage to Bernhart "Bernie" Jamsa, blending their families together.

Irene was preceded in death by her husbands, Ervin Sutherland in 2004 and Bernie Jamsa in 2023; her parents, Adelbert and Elsie Rupert; and her siblings, Kitty, Ted, Elmer, Alma "Dolly", David, and Murriel.

She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Diane (Dennis) Rasmusson, Linda (Tom) Schedin, and Cindy (Tim) Pinson; sons, Roger (Connie) Sutherland and Randy Sutherland; step-children, Susan (Virgil) Voegele and Steven (Diana) Jamsa; 32 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; two sisters, Mae "Honey" Hausman and Gladys Thompson; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Grace Bible Chapel in Grand Rapids, Minnesota with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM before the memorial service.  Rev. Charles Nelson will officiate.  Interment will be held at the Harris Cemetery at a later date.
