James "Jim" Herbert Larson, age 81, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

James was born at home on the family farm in Salem, South Dakota to Herbert and Inez (Tokheim) Larson. He attended school in Salem until his family moved to Seattle, Washington. Jim graduated from Ballard High School in Seattle in 1960. He returned to South Dakota after high school, before moving to Michigan and later to Grand Rapids, Minnesota where he resided for the past 59 years. Jim married Jan (Oleheiser) on July 25, 1987. Jim worked in bridge construction, on the pipeline, and was a lineman for his brother Don at Al-Don Co. Jim worked for many years at Potlatch until he retired in 2004.

Jim loved snowmobiling, hunting, camping, and riding motorcycle. Nothing pleased him more than "going for a ride" in his 1971 Chevy and ending up on some forgotten road. He would often drive around in his yellow "bumblebee" golf cart to visit his neighbors, who became like family. Most of all he loved spending time with his wife, Jan, his children, and grandchildren. He was a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 47 years and members of his meeting group were some of his closest friends.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jan; daughters, Tanya (Dean) Dorholt, Julia (Lance) Hendrickson, Bridget (Chuck) Larson-Lindner; grandchildren, Emily (Matt) Frol, Kaitlin (Britt) Konsor, Drew (Carly) Dorholt, Zach Konsor, Luke Hendrickson, Grace and Grant Lindner; two great-grandchildren, Jack & Clara; brothers, Don Larson, Roger (Dixie) Larson; sister, Doris Anderson; sister-in-law, Deb (Brian) Smith; brother-in-law, Ron(Kimmer) Oleheiser; and many nieces, nephews, extended family & friends.

A visitation will be held at 12 pm noon Monday, February 26, 2024, at Rowe Funeral Home, followed by a 1 pm service. Father John Undem will officiate.
