Janet Kay
"Katy" Kromy
d. Feb 24, 2025
Grand Rapids
Kay (Staebler) Kromy, age 86, left us Monday, February 24, 2025, to be with her Lord and Savior.
Kay was born December 19, 1938, to Tom and Shirley Staebler. In 1958, she married Boots Kromy. They went on to have two sons, Ted and Bill. They lived in Spring Lake Park, MN, where she held various secretarial positions in the Twin Cities. Later, Kay moved to Springbrook, WI, where she took a position of bookkeeper for Link Recreation. From there she decided to move to Blackberry, MN to be closer to her family.
Kay's greatest joy was her family. She so enjoyed raising her sons. She was the goalie, referee, coach, umpire, chief cook, bottle washer, wife, mom, and much more in her kid's youth. When her grandchildren came along, she enjoyed going to their sporting events – keeping stats and cheering them on. She was quite the athlete, herself – back in the day.
Kay enjoyed the outdoors. She had a huge weed free vegetable garden. She loved spending time in the woods, canning, picking berries, yardwork, and anything outside.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Boots; sister and brother-in-law, Gail and Roy Mathews; their son, Gary; and brother-in-law, Keith Champlin. She is survived by her sons, Ted (Carol), and Bill; two grandchildren, Mikayla, and Brett; sister, Marian Champlin; brother, Jim; and many nieces, nephews, and new friends she met at The Emerald's last year.
She will be dearly missed.
Big thanks to the staff at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital, Grand Village, and The Emerald's for the great care she received.
A private service will be held at a later date.
