Janice F. Hites, age 86 of Grand Rapids, Minnesota died on January 13, 2025, at her grandson's home in Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota.

Janice Faye Hites was born July 25, 1938 in Osceola, Wisconsin, the daughter of Charles and Viola (Pilgrim) Reed.  As a young woman, Janice was united in marriage to Donald E. Hites in Osceola, Wisconsin.  Because of Don's military career, Janice and Don lived at many Air Force Bases in the USA and Europe.  Following Don's retirement, they made Grand Rapids, Minnesota their home.

Janice enjoyed living in Grand Rapids.  She was a caring and thoughtful neighbor and was always generous.  Janice enjoyed beautiful cut flower bouquets – this became a special treat she grew to love while living on the Air Force Base in Holland.  She continued her love of flowers and enjoyed having them in her home no matter if they were cut from her gardens or purchased from the store.  She enjoyed baking, sewing, and quilting, however her greatest joy came from Garage Sale-ing!  She was often driven from sale to sale by Don and she had a keen eye for the most affordable treasures.   As she was garage sale-ing, she developed her knowledge of antiques and was constantly looking for the best deal!

During Covid times, her grandson, Daniel, did not like the idea that she could not have visitors in the care center where she was living.  He decided to take her to his home and with the assistance of nursing assists, he was able to care for Janice until her death.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Hites of Grand Rapids; daughter, Diane (George) Tri; grandsons, Richard (Becca) Sandell and Daniel (Bobbi) Sandell; great grandchildren, Amelia, Kylie, Easton, Reid, Grant, and Ethan; sister-in-law, Helen Soring; brother-in-law, Mark McFarland; and other relatives and friends.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Hites on May 12, 2023; her parents; and her three siblings, Joyce, Joann, and Eugene "Gene".

A Celebration of Janice's life will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids with a gathering of family and friends beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Itasca-Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
