Obituary

Jerome "Jerry" Herbert Terhaar, age 77, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Grand Itasca Hospital, Grand Rapids, MN.

Jerry was born in 1947 to Herbert and Ramona Terhaar in St. Cloud, MN.  He attended school in Grand Rapids, MN.  Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1964 where he served 2 ½ tours of duty in Vietnam and was later stationed in Korea, Germany, and various military bases across the United States prior to his retirement in 1985.  Following his retirement from the military, he moved back to Cohasset, MN and went to work with his brother, Rick, as a mechanic at Rick's Small Engine Shop.  On January 17, 1997, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Anderson in Grand Rapids, MN.  Jerry was very dedicated in volunteering and supporting veterans.  The position he took the most pride in was serving as the coordinator for the Grand Rapids Area Color Guard where he organized and participated in over 5100 military funeral presentations.  He was a life member of the VFW Post 1720 and American Legion Post 60 where he served as Commander and Sergeant At Arms of the Legion for multiple terms.  Jerry was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Grand Rapids, MN.  He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, and guiding young veterans.

He is preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Herbert and Marcella Terhaar, his mother and step-father, Ramona and Rodney Fuller; three brothers, Alan, Daniel, and Richard Terhaar; step-brother, Jerome "Joe" Fuller; brothers-in-law, Bob Hollom, Mark Freeburg, and Lloyd Kimber.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Lorraine; 3 children, Dawn (Dale) Evans, Jerrie (Kim) Terhaar, and  Anneetta (Caleb) Christman; 3 step-children, Lawrence Anderson Jr., Keith (Becky) Anderson, and Jackie (Pat) Jordan; two sisters, Cheryl Hollom and Beverly (Paul) Peterson; two step sisters, Kathie Crowe and Sharon Kimber; one step-brother, John (Terrie) Fuller; sister-in-law, Ellen Terhaar; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff, physicians, and nurses at Grand Itasca Hospital for the wonderful care that was given to Jerry while he was there.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 beginning at 12 Noon at Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, MN with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.  Burial with full military honors will be at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN.  A luncheon will be served at the American Legion in Grand Rapids, MN immediately following the cemetery service and military honors.
