Jerome "Jerry" Tinquist, age 90, of Cohasset, MN died Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital, Grand Rapids, MN.
Jerry was born in 1933 to Theodore and Lily Tinquist in Grand Rapids, MN. He first attended school in Cohasset and graduated from Grand Rapids High School. He worked at Tinquist Signs, joined the Army from 1953 to 1955, and returned to Tinquist Signs after he was honorably discharged, working there for 20 years. Jerry worked for ISD 318 in maintenance for 23 years until he retired as Supervisor of buildings and grounds. He married Cherry Asmus on March 30, 1959, in Chokio, MN then built a home in Cohasset where they raised their family and was fortunate to live their forever. Jerry was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he was very active and involved in many ministries. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Camp Hiawatha.
Jerry was a quiet, gentle man, with a strong Christian faith. He devoted his time as a silent servant to others. His quiet presence was always appreciated, as well as his precise declarations of faith when he chose to speak.
Jerry loved cutting wood, having afternoon coffee with his brothers, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jerry was an artist with watercolors, a wood carver, and a pilot in his earlier years. He was a devoted caregiver to his wife, Cherry, until her passing.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Cherry; infant sister, Carol Jean; sister, Phyllis Hoard; and brother, Ted Tinquist.
He is survived by his children, Davin (Terry) Tinquist of Cohasset, MN, Lisa (Mike) Olson of Grand Rapids, MN, and Kevin (Carrie) Tinquist of Cohasset, MN; brothers, Paul (Dee) Tinquist, Carl (Nancy) Tinquist, Jon (Pearl) Tinquist, and Ken (Kathy) Tinquist, sister-in- law Jean Tinquist; grandchildren, Jeremy (Brianna) Tinquist, Afton (Derek) Rakestraw, Mike (Courtney) Olson, Jared (Jessica) Olson, Ben (Katie) Olson, Katie (Jake) Hellevik, and Morgan Tinquist; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 5:00-8:00PM at Zion Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, MN and will continue on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 10:00 am at the church. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am. Rev. David N. Anderson will be officiating. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Columbarium.
