Jerry Broking passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026.

Jerry was born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, where he has spent most of his life. Through mutual friends, Jerry was introduced to the love of his life, Brenda (Markgraf). They were united in marriage on July 1, 1988, and shared 38 wonderful years together. Throughout their marriage, Jerry and Brenda spent time between Grand Rapids and Hutchinson, creating many memories with family and friends in both communities.

Jerry spent the latter part of his working career in retail, where he enjoyed visiting with people and was known for his friendly personality and sense of humor. Those who knew him remember him as someone who never met a stranger and genuinely enjoyed talking with people. He often credited his father, who ran a local gas station, for teaching him the importance of treating every customer with kindness and respect—a lesson Jerry carried with him throughout his life. Jerry was a true people person who loved visiting with others and never missed an opportunity to share a good joke. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing whenever he had the chance.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Brenda (Markgraf) Broking; his daughters, Tonya Forest (Mike) and Jackie Dow (Brandon); his sisters, Joy Paul (Butch) and Dolly Holm (Gary); his brothers, John Jr. Broking (Shirley) and Joe Broking (JoAnn); six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Roy Broking; his brothers, Jim Broking and William Broking; his sister, Cindy Burlison; and his grandson, Greysen.

Jerry will be remembered for his friendly personality, quick wit, and the kindness he showed to others. He enjoyed time with family and friends, loved the outdoors, and had a way of making people laugh with a well-timed joke. His memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
