James Finnila, known to us as "Uncle Jim" and "Jimmy", passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023 at the Grand Village Nursing Home in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. We are grateful for the dedicated care and comfort Jim received in his years at Grand Village and extend our thanks to the staff and volunteers at Grand Village and Elder Circle, and to his St. Croix Hospice team of caregivers and visitors.

Uncle Jim lived in the Marble/Twin Lakes area for most of his life. He graduated from Greenway High School and attended Bemidji State University. Jim enjoyed visits and home projects with his family and friends and was caregiver for his mom for her last years at their Twin Lakes home.

During his own last years while he was at Grand Village, Jim shared his favorite rock music and his lifelong fascination with science fiction with his care team and visitors and was especially pleased with the sci-fi movies that staff and others found for him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie and Toivo "Oiva" Finnila; his brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Elaine Waisanen; and his nephew, Mark Waisanen. Jim is survived by Mark's wife Jayne, their daughters and families, and by nieces Mary Waisanen, Debra Solem, and Melanie Cohen, and their extended families.

In accordance with Jim's wishes, there are no formal services planned.
