Jimmy
Mccoy
d. Aug 22, 2025
Jimmy McCoy, age 79, died on August 22 at his home in Grand Rapids, MN, due to MDS.
Born in Alabama, he grew up causing trouble around the Guntersville area before moving to Minnesota in his 30s – though he never gave up his love for Bama college sports. He worked in a number of skilled labor jobs throughout his life, including as a mechanic, millwright, truck driver, factory foreman, carpenter, and home builder, finally retiring as that old guy working in the hardware store that you always hope to find when you have a question about how to fix something. Outside of work, he was an avid bowler for many years but made golf a lifelong passion, eagerly anticipating that first round every spring when he could take out his golf cart (with racing stripes). Jimmy was one of nine children born to Zilman and Mildred McCoy in Marshall County, Alabama.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Bobby, Bill, Benny, Calvin, and Ed.
He is survived by his brother, Leon; sisters, Judy and Kathy; ex-wives, Lyndell (Davis) and Crystal (Heavirland); children: Laura (Wistoft), Brian, Kevin, and Melanie; grandchildren: Brianna, Kelsey (Andrews), Catherine, Riley, Abigail, and Ainsley; and great-grandchildren: Finley and Mallory Andrews.
He was grateful to spend time in person with all four children and both ex-wives very recently, and to be supported by an incredible care team, including the Grand Itasca Hospital and Infusion Center, St. Croix Hospice, and the golf buddies who spent time with him while getting treatment.
At his request, there will be no formal gatherings, but he always loved a round with friends at the clubhouse after a round with friends on the golf course, so get together with some friends and celebrate him however you see fit.
