Joan Theresa Trunt, 76, Grand Rapids, MN resident passed away, Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Joan was born February 24, 1950, in Minneapolis, MN to Earl and Mary Trunt.  She attended school in Minneapolis at St. Helena's Catholic Elementary School and Regina High School and then graduated at Grand Rapids High School in 1968.

Her father, Earl, moved the family to Sago Township near Swan River, MN in 1965 because the Beatles were coming to play at the Met stadium in the twin cities, and he didn't like their influence. But that didn't stop Joan. She found a way and went to see them anyway.

Joan worked a number of jobs starting with the First National Bank until she got her nursing degree in 1982.  Joan was not a fan of the cold snowy winters here, so her plan was to move to Arizona.  She stopped to see her aunt in Denver CO and put in an application at a local hospital there.  They hired her on the spot, and she worked and lived in Denver for the next 32 years.  She never did make it to Arizona.  Joan moved back to Grand Rapids in 2014.

She loved to travel and visited many countries on 6 continents, all but Antarctica.  Joan even took her mother Mary along as they visited Europe, Japan and China.

Joan was a very social person and made friends easily over the years. She had a great sense of humor. She loved to read and collect books, travel spoons, and Snoopy memorabilia.

Preceding her in death were her parents Mary & Earl Trunt. Joan is survived by three siblings Renee (Michael Davis), Leo (Edna), Dennis (Jackie) and 12 nieces/nephews and several great nieces/nephews.

Our family would like to thank River Grand Memory Care, and St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Joan.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Grand Rapids, MN.  Father Blake Rozier will officiate.  Burial will be in Sago Cemetery, Sago Township, Itasca County, MN.
