John Francis Bender, age 66, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025, at home with his wife at his side.

John was born August 6, 1959, in Springfield, Minnesota to Charles R. and Esther (Green) Bender. At a young age the family moved to Cohasset, Minnesota.  He attended Grand Rapids Schools and graduated with the Class of 1977 from Grand Rapids High School.

John played bass guitar in a band for many years.  It was at one of his gigs over 40 years ago that he met the love of his life, Tammy Gravelle. They spent their life together and were united in marriage in Duluth on March 26, 2025. For many years John worked as a supervisor in conversion at MDI at the Cohasset location.

John enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting and was a true Vikings fan, watching all their games.  He loved the many cats who shared his life, and treasured time spent with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

John is survived by his wife, Tammy Gravelle-Bender; sisters, Patricia Frey, Theresa Narotzky, and Diana Green; brother, Craig Rovinsky; his two cats, Jett and Raven; nieces, and nephews, cousins, and extended family, and many friends.
