JOHN F. KORTEKAAS, age 86, of Tucson, AZ, and formerly of Hill City, MN, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Grand Village in Grand Rapids, MN. John was born in 1927 to Nicholas and Jennie Kortekaas at Martin Spur, MN. He grew up and attended school in Hill City and served in the US Army for two years during the Korean War. John was united in marriage to Delores Hyen on November 14, 1953 in Grand Rapids, MN and they made their home in Hill City, and later moved to Tucson, AZ.

John was a member of the American Legion Post 340 in Hill City for over 50 years.

John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed reading, 4-wheeling and many other activities. He was known as "The Candy Man", and he loved to tell jokes!!

Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers; and six sisters.

John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Delores; two daughters, Debbie (Tony) Kaczor of Grand Rapids, MN, and Pam (Joe) Cunningham of Pensacola, FL; son, John (Liz) Kortekaas of Tucson, AZ; two sisters, Joyce Johnson of Aitkin, MN and Julie (John) Varner of Pigeon Forge, TN;brother, Bert Kortekaas of Hill City, MN; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service with full military honors will be Saturday, May 16th at 1:00 PM at Beer-Bower Veteran's Park in Hill City, MN. Rev. Lonnie Lee will officiate.
