John H. Tobeck, age 80, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital, Grand Rapids, MN.

John was born in 1943 to Henry and Mary Tobeck in Grand Rapids. He grew up in the area and attended Grand Rapids area schools. John started working at an early age in the logging industry. At the age of 20, he was drafted into the US Army and served 2 years before being honorably discharged and returning to Grand Rapids. John was offered a job with Casper Construction in 1967 and he stayed with the company until his retirement 42 years later in 2006.

He met the love of his life, Darlin, when she was invited to go snowmobiling with friends, a new adventure for her. This meeting led to many road trips as the pair started dating. They married on June 21, 1969. John was a selfless, hardworking man that cherished his family. He enjoyed hunting, spearing, sitting in his chair, snowmobiling, and was a member of the Diablo Car Club, but his pride and joy was his 1967 Chevy Chevelle.

John had a great sense of humor and was considered quirky by his family. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and Jerry; and sister, Rosie Stangland. John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Darlin; daughters, Shannon (Bryan) Fideldy and Kelly (Tom) Broberg; son, J.J. (Joni) Tobeck; brother; Roger (Paulette) Tobeck; and grandchildren, Taylor and Tara Fideldy, and Madelynn and Mason Broberg.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at the Cohasset Community Center, beginning at 11:00am followed by the celebration of life at 12:00pm. Burial with military honors will be at 2:30pm at Harris Cemetery in Grand Rapids. Rev. Patrick Lovejoy will officiate.
