Dr. Joseph William Rust, age 99, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota passed away peacefully December 30, 2024 at Majestic Pines in Grand Rapids surrounded by several friends.

Joe was born October 1, 1925 in Pendleton County, Kentucky, the son of William Michael and Frances Louise (Eisen) Rust. He graduated from Butler High School in Butler, Kentucky. He continued his education and earned his Bachelor's Degree and his Master's Degree from the University of Kentucky. From 1953-1960, Joe was an instructor at the University of Kentucky. Joe continued his education and earned his PhD from the Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. In 1963, Joe moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was employed as a professor at the University of Minnesota – Ag School in Grand Rapids and retired in 1990.

While living in Grand Rapids, Joe became involved in the community. Joe was a member at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grand Rapids where he enjoyed ushering as frequently as possible.  He also volunteered at many events at St. Joe's.  Joe was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.  He participated in the Grand Rapids Kiwanis Club and also served on the board for Youth for Christ. Spending time with friends became a treasure for him.

Joe leaves behind one sister, Anna Mae Rust of Newport, Kentucky. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 9, 2025 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MN.  A visitation will begin at 10:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow at Itasca Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
