Obituary

Joseph "Joe" William Voges, age 63, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Viewcrest Health Center in Duluth, MN.

Joe was born October 7, 1960, to Joy and Dick Voges at Itasca Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids, MN. From the time he was a young boy, Joe discovered ways to "re-work" and "re-purpose" anything he had on hand. He found great joy in fixing anything and everything, and he maintained his special interest for "tinkering" throughout his life.

After graduating from Grand Rapids High School in 1979, Joe joined the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge. He attended Wadena AVTI from 1984 to 1986 where he studied Electronics Technology.

For 20 years, Joe lived in Isanti, MN. He worked for various companies before starting his own tool repair business, A&J Industries, which he operated until the progression of his Parkinson's diagnosis. In 2017, Joe returned to Grand Rapids to be near family.

Joe's hobbies included repair work, camping, snowmobiling, biking, hunting, and watching Star Trek. Joe treasured time spent with his children and his cats, and you could always find him jamming to music. He was known as "Music Man" by Viewcrest staff and fellow residents.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor "Joy" Bullock Dunning and stepfather, Glenn Dunning; Grandparents, Jannette "Nana" and William Voges, Daisy (Cash) Bullock and Arza Rufus Bullock; Uncle Richard Bullock, and lifelong best friend, Scott Paine.

Joe is survived by his children, Sam (Voges) Mentges; Shawntay Voges; David Olson-Iverson, and Jarah Voges; father, Richard "Dick" Voges; sisters, Kim Flinck and Lynn Ranger; brothers, Rick Voges and Tim Voges; and seven grandchildren. Also surviving is his aunt, "Dodie" McNew; former wife, Rebecca "Becky" (Carlson) Rasche, and former partner, Anne Anderson.

A visitation will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, MN, beginning at 12 Noon until the 1:00 PM funeral service at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at Itasca-Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids, MN, where Joe will be laid to rest alongside fellow veterans and near his mother and grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, Joe's children request donations be made to Joe's GoFundMe, which will be used for remaining funeral costs and GoFundMe transaction fees (per donation) https://gofund.me/98973670.

Joe's family wish to extend special acknowledgement and appreciation to the dedicated staff of Viewcrest Health Center and Gentiva Hospice in Duluth and Essentia Health in Deer River for their compassionate care of Joe.
