Karen Marie Arnold (Ahcan), 64, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at her home in Grand Rapids, MN, surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of strength, generosity, and unwavering care for others.
Karen was born in 1961 in Grand Rapids, MN to Richard "Rick" and Peggy Ahcan. She graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1979. She then graduated with her Electrical Engineering Degree in 1984, received her Master's in business and systems engineering in 1986. Karen was a distinguished alumni of the School of Engineering at Montana State University and later served on the board of directors for the School of Engineering. On August 11, 1984, she was united in marriage to John Arnold in Grand Rapids, MN and they made their home in the twin cities for 40 years. Karen was the CEO for Nanocopoeia and a business consultant. In 2023, Karen and John moved back to Grand Rapids, MN. She loved skiing, musicals, movies, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard "Rick" and Peggy Ahcan, and her brother-in-law, William "Bill" Hammann.
Karen shared a life filled with love and memories with her husband of 41 years, John. She was a devoted mother to: Emily (Tyler) De Jong of Ramsey, MN, and Hannah Arnold (Wyatt Linstad) of Bismarck, ND, Benjamin Arnold (Nikki Wahl) of Big Lake, MN, and Michael (Sam) Boehmer of Sauk Center, MN; and her siblings: Jean Hammann of Grand Rapids, MN and Mary (Cory) Vatnsdal of Roseau, MN; Steve (Allison) Ahcan of Grand Rapids, MN, and Tim (Michelle) Ahcan of Savage, MN; and three grandchildren, Declan, Jaina, and Finnian plus one grandchild on the way; and many nieces and nephews, who all brought endless joy to her life.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 3rd, 2026, beginning 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grand Rapids, MN with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 AM at the church. Fr. Jerry Weiss and Deacon Randy Bayerl to concelebrate. Burial will be in Itasca-Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the "Autoimmune Association".
