Kathleen S.
Longmore
d. Jan 22, 2026
Grand Rapids
Kathleen Longmore (Major), age 88, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, surrounded by her loving family.
Kathleen spent her entire life in Grand Rapids, where she and her beloved husband, Cecil Longmore, built their home together on Pokegama Lake—a home she cherished and lived for the rest of her life.
Cecil preceded her in death in 2000, and Kathleen carried his memory with quiet strength and deep devotion. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Eini Major; brother, Wally Major; and sister, Gloria Zachow.
A kindhearted and devoted homemaker, Kathleen's life centered around her family. She was the heart of Sunday family dinners—a steady, calming presence whose love was felt in countless simple, meaningful ways. She found joy in everyday moments —watching old westerns, knitting and crocheting, tending her garden, and working in her yard. Living on Pokegama Lake brought her deep happiness, and she loved soaking in the views and being outdoors whenever she could.
Kathleen is survived by her five children: Valorie (William) Mackley, Lynn (Mike) Murphy, Shari (Mark) Saiger, Jim Longmore, and Randy (Stephanie) Longmore; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great‑grandchildren; her sister, Shirley (Jim) Lewis; brother, Kenny (Becky) Major; and many nieces and nephews.
Kathleen will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering love for her family, and the quiet strength she carried throughout her life. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, tradition, and togetherness that will continue through generations
A celebration of Kathleen's life will be held in late Spring.
